想像一下，馬刺隊剛剛發生了6次失誤，「鐵血教頭」Gregg Popovich喊了暫停，這時他會說些什麼？

「有時我會說，沒什麼要說的，你們要我怎麼辦呢？該怎麼做？想出辦法來。」Popovich說。

說完那些，Popovich就會走開，「因為我真的覺得，沒辦法替球員們做什麼，頂多譙個一兩句髒話，讓我看起來像個教練，但重點還是球員們自己要去應對。」

「黑衫軍」馬刺隊紀律嚴明、球風紮實、成績斐然，十幾年來都令對手不敢小覷。能有這種威名，關鍵在於Popovich懂得授權，讓球員自己在場上判斷，該怎麼處理。

「我認為具有競爭意識的人，不會喜歡有人一直耳提面命，授權給球員，他們會做到想做的事。」Popovich說。
